Enhancing Faith-Based Giving with Scalable, Custom Digital Solutions
Seraphic Mass Association

The Challenge
Seraphic Mass Association needed a modern, secure platform to manage thousands of daily Mass requests and donations—many of which involved customized eCards and physical card fulfillment. Their legacy system could no longer support the volume, complexity, or mobile expectations of today’s donors.
The project required not only an elegant eCommerce experience, but also deep integration with their proprietary order fulfillment system, which had no out-of-the-box connectors or APIs
The Solution
Lava architected and built a fully custom eCommerce website using ASP.NET Core MVC on Kentico Xperience 13, hosted on Microsoft Azure. We developed:
- Highly interactive ReactJS product configurators to guide users through personalized Mass request flows
- A custom email system using Mailgun to ensure reliable eCard delivery, including scheduled sending and recipient view tracking
- Real-time address validation using Google Places API
- Seamless donation and payment flows via Stripe and PayPal
- A custom integration layer between Kentico’s user and order APIs and the client’s proprietary fulfillment system, which required translation into a legacy file-based processing queue
The Outcome
- The new system continues to support year-over-year donation growth
- SMA now delivers a streamlined, intuitive Mass request experience—on desktop and mobile
- The website handles thousands of unique card orders weekly with zero downtime and high delivery success rates
What Made It Complex
SMA’s fulfillment system required a tightly controlled integration that translated modern CMS data into a legacy format—without compromising reliability or user experience. Combined with the need for dynamic product logic and scalable infrastructure, this project showcased our ability to bridge old and new technologies seamlessly.
Enhancing the Experience
Mass Scheduling Tool: A custom scheduling system that automatically assigns Masses to specific days based on availability, location, and daily limits—removing the burden of manual assignment and reducing fulfillment errors.
Donor Mobile App (Coming Fall 2025): A companion iOS and Android app currently in development, designed to let SMA’s donors request Masses, send digital cards, and manage their giving directly from their phones. The app will offer an intuitive step-by-step interface tailored to an older audience and tightly integrates with the SMA website backend for seamless tracking and reporting.
